Paul Speller adjudicates in the Department of Health Top Team awards

Paul Speller was one of three independent judges called upon to adjudicate in the Department of Health’s annual Top Team awards, which recognise the work of groups within the department.

Paul, along with fellow judges Andrea Chambers, chief executive of Manx Cancer Help, and Steve Wicks, managing director of marketing agency Home Strategic, decided the winners’ award should go to Noble’s Hospital’s musculoskeletal physiotherapy outpatient department for the introduction of a self-referral scheme that has revolutionised physiotherapy care in the Island.

It brought about a system where patients can choose to make an appointment directly with their local physiotherapy site, leading to an increase in the number of patients seen.

After the judges produced a shortlist of four teams from all the entries,  the finalists were each required to give a presentation before the three judges.

While the decision was unanimous, it proved to be very close between all the candidates.

Paul told the gathered finalists at the end of the ceremony: ‘I think the one word that we used repeatedly during the shortlisting and again in judging the presentations by today’s finalists is “passion”.’
